All aboard for a taste of the golden age of rail travel with Great Northern Hotel’s new afternoon tea – inspired by its history as London’s original railway hotel and the destinations served from nearby King’s Cross station.
Whether you’re arriving to London for a day in the city or just passing through on your way to another adventure: escape the hustle and bustle of the station concourse with a cosy table at RAILS brasserie, found on the first floor of the Grade II-listed hotel.
The menu features flavours as diverse as the routes that depart from the station, with a selection of savouries including a Wensleydale scone with sundried tomato cream cheese, delicate finger sandwiches such as egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon, as well as a delicious “Scouse Pie” encased in flaky golden pastry and filled with chunks of tender beef.

This gastronomical journey around the British Isles continues with an array of sweet treats including “Yorkshire Parkin”, a ginger cake served with lashings of Chantilly cream; Millionaire’s shortbread topped with a golden chocolate locomotive; a Victoria sponge cupcake and, paying homage to Edinburgh as the final destination on the East Coast Mainline, a Scottish Cranachan choux bun.
Freshly baked fruit and plain scones are served with plenty of strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream and the tea can be enjoyed with unlimited loose-leaf blends from East India Tea Company. Alternatively, add some sparkle with a glass of prosecco, Nyetimber English sparkling wine or Billecart-Salmon champagne.
RAILS’ Afternoon Tea is priced from £39.50 per person and is served Thursday to Sunday from 1pm-5pm in RAILS Restaurant.
